A recent report from data platform Traxon shows that there are more than 8,000 tech startups run by women in India. These startups have raised about $23 billion so far. Overall, Indian tech startups have raised $155 billion in funding, with women-led startups receiving about 14.8% of the total funding.

Out of 8,000 startups, 2,316 have received funding. The data also shows that nearly 6,000 startups have not received funding, of which 590 have revenues of more than $30,000.

Delhi-NCR tops in creating women-led tech startups

Delhi-NCR has more than 2,300 women-led startups, followed by Bengaluru and Mumbai. Bengaluru tops the funding chart by raising nearly $9.5 billion for women-led tech startups. Jaipur and Indore are included in the top 10 cities. India ranks second in terms of funding to women-led companies.

According to Traxon, the share of women entrepreneurs in the Indian tech industry is more than 18% and among funded companies it is more than 14%. Globally, among startups with female founders, Indian tech startups are second only to the US in terms of funding.

In 2020, Indian women-led startups contributed about 17% of global funding. During this period, Indian women-led startups raised $2.9 billion compared to $17 billion raised by global women-led tech startups.

2021 is the best year for women-led tech startups

In 2021, funding for women-led tech startups reached $6.5 billion, the highest level in a decade, according to Traxon. There was a huge 100% increase in funding across various stages, but except for early-stage startups, overall funding declined after 2021.

Which saw a growth of 97% to $1.5 billion in 2022. Additionally, 2021 saw the creation of 8 unicorn startups led by women and a record 42 acquisitions of women-led startups.

Women-led companies in the startup ecosystem faced hardship during the winter funding period. Funding for these companies fell sharply by 75% from $4.5 billion in 2022 to $1.1 billion in 2023.

B2C e-commerce is the best sector among women-led startups

He is also active in fashion technology, online marketplace and startups selling clothes online. Other areas where they are thriving include enterprise enterprise software, online fashion brands, education technology for schools and selling groceries online.

When it comes to investors, LetsVenture, Wellfound and Venture Catalysts are the most active investors in women-founded companies.
